Sustainability Policy

Sustainability @ The Brighton & Hove Business Show

The Show became a recognised event during 2008 and the organisation were particularly concerned not to add to the carbon footprint in the world, wanting to ensure simple measures were in place to save energy and money without compromising the business event.

The Brighton and Hove Business Show undertook a review during Spring 2009 and built upon the successes already put in place and particularly identified two key areas that would have maximum and greatest impact  to tackle sustainability issues.

  • Reduce the carbon footprint associated with exhibitors and visitors transport
  • Reduce the printed and paper waste left at The Show venue

By the end of 2009 substantial reductions were achieved in both those areas identified

car sharing statistics improved

up from 4% of visitors car sharing  to over 10% November Show 2009

public transport use and increased walking/cycling/bus use

up from 4% of visitors to over 10% November 2009

Additionally

- all event services being retained from the local economy - just 15 miles maximum radius of the venue

- reduction of printing and waste paper at each event.

a  reduction achieved down to just 0.7 litre per person November 2009 Show

- a total cost of energy consumed by the venue November 2009 Show

  226KWh cst @ £8.387p = £18.95 consumption for November 2009 Show

The Brighton and Hove Business Show will continue during 2010 to monitor and record various carbon footprint achievements and ensure these are available from the website www.brightonandhovebusinessshow.co.uk
